Recognizing God at Work

When we lose our fear of failure and inadequacy, I’ve discovered that we can grow and fully utilize creative expression along our spiritual journey. With my various insecurities and struggles with social anxiety, I have had to make a daily choice to find confidence in the Lord and allow Him to work through me. I’ve learned if we choose to be filled and controlled by the Spirit, He will lead us to amazing places and can use us in extraordinary ways. I’m truly honored that I’ve had opportunities to lead classes I’ve created for women. In each course, we’ve participated in fun art projects, examined dynamic women in the Bible, and discussed how our...

Creating Art

Art is everywhere and plays an important part in our spiritual journey. God is concerned with the detail, quality, and beauty of what we each do in our home, church, and job. Whether it’s cooking, painting, writing, gardening, or singing, He’s given each of us ability to create, imagine, explore, and dream. As I grow, the Lord has been encouraging me to look at life through the eyes of an artist. When we take this step, we will be able to: 1. Completely identify with having a creative God who made us in His image and discover creativity within each of us. 2. Fully understand what it means when the Bible says God is the Potter and we are the clay. 3. Truly...

Amazing Grace

No matter where I’m at in my spiritual journey, I’m learning I will always need reminders of God’s amazing grace and His unfailing love. Serious health concerns among family members, important plans cancelled from the snow, and expensive household repairs were all unpleasant surprises for me this past month. I confess. I sometimes didn’t handle my frustration in a healthy, mature way. When I decided to listen to God’s voice during my disappointments, He brought to my attention a beautiful song called “Amazing Grace” which I remember hearing as a young child in church. I encouraged my daughter to learn to sing the song and my son began to discover how...

Healing through Creative Expression

While hanging up artwork in an elementary school, my mother suddenly lost her balance and fell off a utility cart. This terrible accident which occurred in 2002 resulted in a serious head injury that developed into Grand-mal seizures. Over the years, my mother suffered from short-term memory loss, the inability to hear in one ear, and balance and perception issues. Despite her physical limitations, she chose to remain obedient to God’s call in developing her creative gifts to serve others. I loved watching my mother find joy in teaching children about art and achieve peace as she painted murals for her church. She even went back to college and received her...

Serving our King

Writing articles for my church’s newsletter has rewarded me with a great deal of joy. Each month I have the special privilege of highlighting what God’s doing in various ministries and getting to know many wonderful pastors, leaders, and volunteers who have a passion to serve. As these individuals choose to pursue God’s beautiful dream for their lives, I’m always amazed at how He continues to use them in a powerful way to provide the emotional, spiritual, financial, and physical needs of others. Witnessing numerous men, women, teens, and even children using their heart, mind, and hands to glorify our Savior is a gift. It can inspire and remind us to...

Finding Rest

Posted by on Oct 30, 2013 in Blog | 30 comments

When the world around us feels like it’s falling apart, I’m so thankful we can find rest and comfort in the arms of our Savior. Rest is essential along our journey towards growing both emotionally and spiritually. It gives us the strength and perseverance needed to continue carrying out what we were called to do. This month my family and I traveled to a cabin in the Poconos. I admit the idea of being in the middle of the woods for a weekend terrified me at first. However, I knew my husband and two precious children were looking forward to it and I decided this was something special I shouldn’t miss. To my surprise the trip was refreshing. Taking a break...
